The main goal this is to get a system that could match your computing needs. You'll certainly must consider your capacity to pay buying that PC. Low-end budget systems you will save some huge cash and therefore are well suited for most home users. High-end systems with the latest Athlon 64 or Intel Pentium 4 processors cost countless personal computer suitable for those who need to take part in the latest 3D games or do heavy video or graphics editing.
System Features
OK, here's where it gets complicated. An average desktop PC 's got numerous components, it is difficult to make the decision which strategy is positive or negative. We're speaking about a whole plethora of components from memory, video cards, sound cards, optical drives and so forth.
Here's a stab at the most essential components while in the PC and what you should watch out for:
CPUs
The CPU may be the brain of your system - it's the same a vital consideration when pruchasing that PC. The older chips like Intel Celeron and Intel Pentium 3 chips are now becoming obsolete. If you'd like your system to continue for a little while, go with newer processors just like the Intel Pentium 4 and AMD Athlon 64.
Memory
System memory is usually vitally important - you may never adequate of computer. Typically, find a minimum of 512 MB of memory inside desktop you want to buy. Anything less while pose problems for business or graphics applications.
Motherboards
If you are buying the system off the shelf from vendors like HP, Dell or eMachines, the motherboard brand will in most cases stop an issue. The truth is, most PC manufacturers don't publish the motherboard utilised in their desktops. The motherboard brand is of greater importance for anyone who is building your own private PC.
Hard disk drives
My advice to you personally here is - get just as much hard disk space as you possibly can afford. A common hard drive by today's standards would be about 80 GB at the least. If you do a large amount of downloading off the Internet, or edit videos or have a huge number of MP3s, selecting better off with at the least a 160 GB hard disk.
Optical Drives
A CD-ROM drive is actually a regular feature in all of the computers. Ensure you're getting at least a 40X CD-ROM read speed. An extra consideration today can be whether you would like read-write capability - many computers now feature CD-RW drives. DVD-ROM drives are being bundled in desktops. Best of all, some come with DVD-RW drives that will conserve the buying price of buying a separate DVD writer afterwards.
Monitors
Perhaps the true secret consideration the following is whether you want a CRT or LCD display. My estimation will be to choose at least a 17 inch monitor if you prefer a CRT display, and at least a 15 inch monitor for LCD displays. Good famous brands allow me to share: NEC, Samsung and ViewSonic.
Graphics
Desktops have either integrated video to the motherboard, or possibly a physical video card. When you play loads of games, especially 3D games like Half-Life 2, you'll not wish to make use of integrated video. Be sure that the system incorporates a physical video card with at the least AGP 8X and 256 MB of video memory.
Sound
Again, fairly for computers in the future with integrated sound on the motherboard these days. However, a high level computer audio buff, invest in a separate third-party sound card such as the Creative Audigy Sound Card.
Ports
USB ports are almost standard features in desktop computer systems today. In reality, you might want to check that the device comes with support for any latest USB 2.0 specification. Better still if this incorporates FireWire ports (which can be important for video capture and editing).
Main system
Operating-system
Virtually all pcs lately ship with Windows 7 Home Edition, which is made for home users. Business users will want to look for Or windows 7 Professional or Windows 2000 Professional for being bundled within the package.
Tech support team
After-sale support and warranty periods absolutely are a prime consideration especially there are no expertise in troubleshooting computers. Most basic warranty periods continue for a year or two and they are sufficient for any average user. Don't buy an extended warranty period without reading the small. Most likely, there's no need to have overly long warranty periods for the reason that reasonable length of your laptop are going to be about Four or five years at most of the.

Computer will not boot into windows until it has warmed up for about 20 minutes?
I have a homebuilt computer with a PC Chips 848A motherboard, Athlon processor, new Western Digital 160GB hard drive and a DVD writer.
When I power on the unit it does not recognize the hard drive. I have the hard drive set on cable select but I have also tried it on master drive with the same result. I have the bios set to auto detect all the drives. The dvd writer is recognized right away. After about 20 minutes I can hit the reset switch and the computer will recognize the hard drive and boot up. I have replaced the cmos battery. Any ideas what is causing this?
Can you try another power supply? They can do some weird things.
