Phenom II 550 different codes?
Hi, im thinking about buying an Asus crosshair III motherboard and a Phenom II 550 cpu..
Now..looking into the "compatible cpu's" list on the asus website i can track down that the Phenom II 550 is indeed compatible with this motherboard.
My doubts come from the fact that such cpu is here codenamed in 3 different codes:
Phenom IIX4 955 (HDX955FBK4DGI),3.2GHz,125W,rev.C2,SocketAM3,Quad-Core
Phenom IIX4 955 (HDX955FBK4DGM),3.2GHz,125W,rev.C3,SocketAM3,Quad-Core
Phenom IIX4 955 (HDZ955FBK4DGI),3.2GHz,125W,rev.C2,SocketAM3,Quad-Core
But the Cpu i found in the shop is codenamed:
HDZ955FBGIBOX
Does that mean that there are different cpu's under the same name? Does that mean that the cpu i found being sold is incompatible with that motherboard?
LOL! Good question!
Note that the HDZ955FBGIBOX says "BOX" on it, so it is what is called a "boxed" processor, usually comes with a heatsink/fan assembly and some thermalpaste. The other three you listed, are not boxed processors, they come without the heatsink/fan or thermalpaste. Note tha the Rev C3 is a newer revision of the same processor, so if you are just going to buy the processor without any heatsink/fan assembly, get the HDX955BK4DGM REV C3 model.
